Time To Blow The Cobwebs Off With A New Hot Rods & Kustoms Puzzle! 8)

Things have been getting a bit staid in AutoPuzzles land. What better way to swing things back to Fun, Fun, Fun than with a new puzzle packed with wild and wacky hot rods, show rods and kool kustoms? I, Otto Puzzles my own bad self am here to feed the need with motorized metalflaked steeds of speed!

In this puzzle, there are pictured 2 (count 'em, 2) dozen hot rod and/or kustom cars, from mild to wild. To score points, you'll need to tell me more than just type of car. Any one can spot a T or an A (and there is a smattering of each in this sumbitch). Oh, yeah ;D

For a point per puzzle pic, you'll have to cough up at least two of the three items from the following list:

  • The builder's and/or owner's name

  • The name given to the car by the builder or owner (not the manufacturer of the original car)

  • The car on which the hot rod or custom was based

No points for just one of the three listed items! :disbelief:

No bonus points for giving all three! :disbelief:

An immediate ban if I catch you using Google Search by Image

Enjoy!

LOVE this idea, Otto! And rods and customs aren't necessarily easy to identify.

Right off the bat, #12 is Ed Roth's Mysterion, said to have been created out of trailer framerails, a pair of 406ci.Ford V8s and a pair of banjo rear axles, plus a bunch of plaster and fiberglass.

Right!

It looks like #8 is Jesse Lopez's !941 Ford Coupe. Chopped and customized by the Barris brothers with '46 Ford fenders and a '48 Cadillac grille. This picture shows flipper caps, but it seems that he also ran Cadillac sombrero wheelcovers.

I have no idea what he named the car. Is further study required?

You got the owner, the builder and the base car. That's good for the point.

BTW - all points will be awarded when all 24 are done.

Thank you!
And now I must test your patience even as your puzzles test my ability to research:

I think #3 is Blackie Gejeian's '27 Ford T roadster, aka "Shish Kabob,"
but I can't find a picture that looks close to yours. All I find are black paint and kind of slicked-up compared to the Puzzler pic. Wrong car?

No sir

What about #5? Elton Kantor's 1950 Ford, heavily customized by Joe Bailon, chopped severely and using a '51 Ford Victoria roof, with its wraparound back glass.

The #2 pic: Gene Howard's "Truly Rare" 1950 Buick, owner-built using body panels from eight cars, frame sections from two, powered by a '51 Chrysler 331 ci. Hemi V8.

This may be the one of the most customized cars ever, excluding scratchbuilts and ones built specifically for advertising(ie."Anycar").

Otto Puzzell

The other Rookies don't seem to want to earn points here... another point for Zerk!

But soon, this one will move upstairs

This has been fun while it's lasted. A great notion.

#24, "Kumquat", a 1963 Corvair Spyder convertible. Extremely convertible, as it got converted to a much shorter car. Built and probably owned by Jim Bellew.

Otto Puzzell

Corvair and Kumquat are correct - that's the two of three needed for the point.

It was originally purchased by Dave Ballew, but his dad Bob was mostly responsible for the build.

Zerk

Built and I suspect still owned by Dean Arnold, #21 is a 1961 Ford Thunderbird with many custom modifications along with its extreme double-bubble roof. Named ThunderFlite, the car has a House of Kolors Chrome Effects finish.

Otto Puzzell

Another correct ID from Zerk. Methinks he needs some expert competition

sixtee5cuda

#6 is a 1959 Chevrolet Impala restyled by Walker's Custom Shop in Bakersfield, California for Bob Mayfield.

Craig Gillingham

#15 Is that an Australian car?

RayTheRat

#20 1951 Ford of LeRoy Goulart Kustomized by Gene Winfield
