This is the Bailey Electric Phaeton of 1910. The driver is possibly Bailey himself, but the man standing on the left of the picture is Thomas Edison who claimed credit for inventing the nickel-iron battery used in the car. The 1,000 miles does not of course refer to its range on a single charge which was, at best, well below 80 miles and its top speed of under 20mph was not good enough for 1910.
The more I consider the nature of speed, the more mysterious I find it.
