What car is this?
Who built it, when and what was it based on?

woodinsight

Can an Expert solve this one?

woodinsight

No Expert response so up it goes

woodinsight

British yes but not Triumph based

woodinsight

A commoner make than Sunbeam

barrett

The grille looks like it's from a 50s Vauxhall (Velox?), any connection?

woodinsight

Not Vauxhall but a common British make

woodinsight

One of those, yes - please choose.....

woodinsight

Wrong guess - so it must be ?

SeaLion

Based on the A40 perhaps?

woodinsight

woodinsight

I'm going to award SeaLion a point for guessing the base vehicle.
For another point I need the name of the builder and the year when it was constructed.

woodinsight

Okay, this is a difficult one to solve.
Time for a clue - the surname of the builder is the same as a type of low-lying type of land area.
I also need a year to give you the point.

Polder?

woodinsight

Polder no, perhaps more British in the general term

Locked for you

Wendax

Can't find an exact date, but I guess 1955.

BTW, is it Marsh because the driver was Tony Marsh?

1955 is correct. Another point for you (I can almost see you in my rear-view mirror now!)

Although Tony Marsh built a sports racing special in 1953 this one was built by Frank Marsh of Wilmslow, Cheshire.
The body was of aluminium.

Wendax

Objects in the rear view mirror may be closer than they appear.  ;D

It has been, as always, a pleasure.

woodinsight

Be afraid, be very afraid........

Beware of the low-flying Wendax machine!   ;D
