OK here is a more obscure puzzle

This is the rear lights of a car in normal running state - i.e. on the road at night

What car is it...

Almost there but not quite

I have to go out now; maybe I can have a lock?
I know those lights were fitted to some 6-series special bodies (see below ) but I need to investigate further..

Locked you are skirting round the model number and you might know of the car mentioned

Thanks.
So it must be a 5-series E34 from late 1980s/early 1990s; probably the M5 version
It's the only one I can find with the boot lock button alongside the registration plate rather than above it!:

Correct, although it isn't the M5 version just my lower spec 525i

Anyone fancy more of these types of puzzle?

I do - I really enjoy this type of puzzle and I know Djetset is a real Expert on rear lights!  Time was I could rattle off the answer immediately but the years have taken their toll; now I think 'Oh yes, I know that; now, what is it?!' and have to end up trawling the 'Net!

A great puzzle Giles, and more of the same will be fun... Oh, and for what it's worth my first guess at this one was an Alfa 75!
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.
