Title: Monty062 - Solved: 1933 Felcom
Post by: el_monty on February 13, 2017, 11:40:01 AM
Fellow Autopuzzlers, for a point please tell me the name of this car, when it's from, and what powers it.

Don't be naughty! Stay away from Google Search by Image, kids

Well observed! :)  It is indeed a one-off built with some components from a Ford A. Not from Spain, but another European country

Not a Ford chassis;....does it use the Ford engine?

Again, you are spot on. The engine is Ford but the chassis comes from another car. I'll lock the puzzle for you, since you are on the right track.

Since FrontMan has now become an Expert he cannot of course take part in this puzzle any more whilst it's in the Rookies section..
No point in locking it therefore!

Oh. I usually leave my puzzles in the Rookies section for two weeks before I move them on to the Experts. This one has only been up for a week so it feels premature to me to move it to the Experts, but on the other hand it seems a shame to stop Frontman from continuing... I will leave it for another couple of days or so to see if any other Rookie picks it up, otherwise I will move it up before the weekend.

It looks very much to be the Portuguese FELCOM OF 1933 that was in a exhibition in the Museo de Caramulo several years ago.

That's because that is exactly what it is! Portuguese Race car driver and builder Eduardo Ferreirinha, who would later go on to be the founder of Edfor, sold an old Turcat-Mery from the 20s and a modified Ford Model A to a fellow racing driver, Eduardo Carvalho, and by joining the chassis of the French car and the powertrain of the Ford, with a new body to wrap it all in, Carvalho made this special. However, it was outdated, slow and prone to mechanical problems, and he never achieved any successes with it, but it is sometimes called "the first Portuguese car" (even though its components came mostly from abroad)
