kwgibbs is right, it's from Japan. No Vanguard parts AFAIK. In fact all I know for sure is the engine, which is Japanese too.

Kawasaki built some small car prototypes in the 1950s. This doesn't look like the one I have a photo of, but could it be related?

It's not related to Kawasaki. The only relation I can find is that it seems now both companies are part of the same keiretsu (those gigantic Japanese business groups), but I don't think they did when this car was built, and I don't think this information would help you.

It's not from a well-known brand. It's a large company, well-known in Japan (not abroad), but building cars is not what they're most known for. Nevertheless, this company has appeared in Autopuzzles before.
