What is this car, and what powered it?

Larkens 500cc F3. Built in the Bierum, Nertherlands by two(?) brothers. Powered by DKW engines, the first being aircooled and then replaced by a second watercooled 2-stroke one.

Anyone else have experience of DKW 3-cylinder engines? They may have been smoky old things, but they were powerful for their size and very, very smooth. I loved 'em. Well, except when you were driving behind one.... ;) :D

They had an inherent fault in the cooling system.  Tuned ones always suffered with overheating of the No 2 cylinder.  Hence DKW engined cars were only successful in short club races and hillclimbs.
