The year is correct, but it's nothing like as common as a de Dion.

Yes! It's described by the vendor as a Schaudel, but in 1902 the company was bought-out and the cars were renamed as Motobloc. The engine was a 10hp vertical twin with the gearbox in the sump, and mounted transversely  - 57 years before the Mini.
