Welcome aboard, Charlotte! I would also like to know anything about your overgrandfather's cars, if possible :)

I think that design may have influenced (or been influenced by) other specials of that era:

I happen to find a picture of this car in "Classic and Sportscar"  from June 1995, page 90. The car has the same shape, the same license plate, but also heavy bumpers, a 'real', curved split windscreen, outside door handles and chrome stoneguards on the rear wings. There's another pic of an Alvis 14 sports with F.J. Bidée body at 1948 Brussels show (the car with a complete cocktail cabinet in its door...).

Seems to be the car that ran 1949 Le Mans 24h race with a Belgian team of Louis Eggen and Egon Kraft de la Saulx. 1892cc, 4 cyl. ret. after 6 laps.

I guess it'n not the same car, as I have finally found a tiny shot of it at Le Mans, and that one looks way different. Although it might have been rebodied.

Another shot in road-going guise.
This car dates from 1946 and is probably the first of the F.J Bidée bodied cars. It seems 54 chassis were sent to Belgium to be bodied and most of them ended up with Bidée. Does anyone have any evidence of other Belgian Alvis coachwork??

What's this, by whom, from when - for 1 point?:

It's a vehicle.  If a remember correctly it's an Alvis (it always is when I am not sure)

Was an after war Le Mans racer, albeit not very successful.

So here is may answer:  Alvis TA 14

Carnut

It is an Alvis TA 14, yes, so I'll lock it for you until your next reply to answer the other two questions..

Body:  FJ Bidee
Raced between 48 and 49 - so build from 1948.
