Sorry for the poor photo, but this is an obscure car. What is it?

Flathead V8 engine?

I believe so, although I have no evidence. Sorry.

Flathead V8 engine?

I have now found out that the car competed in the C-Mod category. I believe that's 3000-5000cc capacity.

Will it help if we identify the circuit and year - is it for example Riverside?

It depends on how much time you have to spend on trawling through the internet! I guess it would help as you suggest.

It's not Riverside.

That did not produce the result I had hoped for, so perhaps the year would help?1955?

I don't know the year the car was built, so the date of the puzzle image will suffice. Not 1955.

The car in the picture has open wheels.  Was it originally built as a sports car and is later being run in stripped form in a Formule Libre race?

Sorry, but I don't know.  Oddly enough, my notes give the class the car was running in, and this would suggest it was a sports car event. The meeting had an eclectic mix of cars, and as usual at Watkins Glen it was a case of "run what you brung".
