What is this car, and where is it?

I am old enough to remember the news story about this British attempt on Indianapolis in 1962. A Mr De Villiers organised it and Jack Fairman drove it. It was a modified 2.5 litre Connaught, and it failed to qualify.

Indeed it is. They supercharged the car, which can't have helped the wheezy old Alta motor, which were stressed enough already at GP level.
Jack Fairman had at least driven oval races - the Monzanapolis events for Ecurie Ecosse. A bit optimistic to hope for success this time.

Have you got the recently published book 'Monzanapolis' by Aldo Zana?
I can thoroughly recommend it as a very comprehensive history.
I can particularly recommend it as I wrote the English version for Aldo!

I haven't got it (yet) but thanks for the heads-up! I'm actually trying to cut back on buying books..............

In that photo it still has the four intake stubs of the unsupercharged GP Alta engine.

That's an interesting observation. All the records reckon it was supercharged, and the car is in this photo taking part in qualifying or at the very least a rookie test, because I deleted the race numbers painted on the car.
