I think it is the 1963 Trenton 200 Champcar race and alongside Jim Clark that is Chuck Rodee in the Burnett-Chevrolet

You've got the race! (I tried to cover any clues on Jim Clark's Lotus!). However, it's not Rodee. The race number is difficult to read.....

hmmm ... that's odd. I have this photo and it is labelled Jim Clark and Chuck Rogee, note the misspelling. Rodee was running number 87 I believe - which fits the possible number on the nose.

I have it that the only other cars in the race with a no. ending in 7 were conventional Indy roadsters, Kurtis or Watson.

Whoops! I have two of my puzzles muddled up in my notes - many apologies. In fact, I reckon you're spot-on. It's one of Stan Burnett's early creations. In addition, the original caption misidentified the car as #37, a Kurtis.

Another good point to you.
