This one is a bit tricky. I have a suspicion what this could be, but am not sure so far.

  • Who made it?
  • When?
  • On which base?

One point if you know correct answers with evidence to all these questions.

Hmmm, I've seen this before but now wish I could remember where!  So, to clear up a few things; I guess it is;

German?
VW-based?
Possibly Porsche-powered?
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

Allemano

It's not built in Germany according to my source. (if it's right what I'm guessing)
There are possibly some VW parts fitted, but the main parts are indeed from Porsche – like the engine.

Wendax

The numberplates of the Opel Rekord P2 and the van look rather German.

Allemano

Maybe it's a misacception what I'm thinking.. but the appearance of this car fairly matches the description I have.
However it wasn't made far away from Germany.

Not Belgian either.

I called the man who according to my own assumption currently restores this car.
I sent him the pic of #596 and he assured me to answer soon. If I get positive reaction I can tell you a lot more.  ;)

If not this car may remains a mystery for an indefinite time.  :-\

Paul Jaray

Reminds me of a French car...is it French?

Front is like the Zeus, from South Africa.

Bad news...  :-[
The gentleman I've asked has confirmed that the puzzle car is not the one I was after.
Sorry guys, I don't know this car.
I will keep on searching, but it may take a long time till I know what it is.

Yes I've also seen this somewhere in the past but can't remember where - probably in an old German magazine.
Will keep my eyes open for it when I'm browsing......

Allemano

I'm looking forward what your research will bring!

Paul Jaray

I found it too...but there is only one more picture and no-name...

Well done Otto, 'Dätwyler' was exactly the name I was thinking of as I searched for this car.
Unfortunately I've unearthed that it's not this one.  :'(

I received news about this car and it's still alive!
I still don't know who made it (but know it soon), but know the year, the mechanical base, the current owner and where it was recently shown and awarded.

Here it is in its current state! Such a beauty!
