There was more than one designer involved, but at least two members of the design team had previously worked for one of the Big Three. The most prominent of these two members is known for having designed, among other things, more than one 'iconic' American automobile.

That's the car: 1960 'Mustang' concept by IDEA (Industrial Design Engineering Associates), a newly-formed Los Angeles firm consisting of ex-GM designers Pete Brock (Corvette Stingray, Shelby Cobra Daytona Coupe and others), Gene Garfinkle (C3 Corvette Stingray and Coco Chinetti's Ferrari Daytona Shooting Brake) and Norm Neuman, along with engineer Don Nichols.
Fascinating. I didn't know that there was an IDEA before the Italian I.DE.A. was founded in the late 1970s :).

Yes, and an American Mustang before the Ford Mustang! Obviously, this entire project was short-lived.
