Title: Solved: PN #1618 -- delivery prototype by the Electric Vehicle Association, 1943
Post by: pnegyesi on February 05, 2022, 11:25:48 PM
Please identify this beauty for a point. In this particular case a year, a country and a purpose will be enough.

No

Not made by a company.
Not a Metrovick.

I know I am talking in riddles. But once you figure out what it is, then you'll see I was completely honest.

Just to cover a possibility, Harrods had a fleet of electric delivery vans so perhaps this is a prototype.

Not made by a company, not home-built, not built by a university. But someone had to build it at some point !

Was it built by a group of people ?

So it must have been built during WW2.
Was it built to inspect underground bunkers (hence it needed to be electric)?

Thanks for the lock, even though I still haven't got much clue how to solve this mystery !

Is the cargo area meant to be closed when in use ? Or is it relevant that the sides are fully open in this picture (in order to carry very wide objects maybe) ?
Title: Re: PN #1618
Post by: pnegyesi on March 08, 2022, 01:50:37 PM
hmm, how to help you?

So we know this was built to deliver objects. It was built during WW2. And it was electric.

The question you need to ask yourself: why would an organisation build such a vehicle during WW2? And which organisation?

I try to help but it is difficult because I could easily give away the solution
So it has been said that this is British, electric, made during WW2 and it is for "delivery".

Just to give you an idea and hopefully it will not mislead you: during WW1 the Fordson tractor was devised to make farming easier for women. Come WW2, what would be the reason to come up with an electric delivery vehicle? It is not useful as a military truck because recharging is difficult. So then, why?

Electric vehicles became popular in several countries during WW2 because fuel supply was minimal for civilians, but I don't think it was the case in UK.

Electric vehicles are silent, easy to drive and are emission-free. Was this vehicle built by an environmentalist organisation ?
