You are absolutely on the right track and I will LOCK for you to precise your answer. Karl Sch... (not Schlaffer) had a company, which manufactured conversion parts for Mercedes SL's.

Mercedes Benz Pagode, licence NW-9425. Karl Schaller from Stansstad (CH) made a front covering and a flat roof with fastback and large tailgate from fibreglass. He also offered kits for this conversion.
