To confirm/clarify what has already been said:
- Started life with a Maserati engine (Chevy-powered at the time of puzzle photo)
- Not based on a Maserati chassis, but there is a Maserati connection (other than the original engine?)
Was the body custom made or based on something existing (e.g., Devin or other fiberglass body)

Sorry, takes some time. Haven't all in my brains
A rebodied and Chevy-powered "Razzo" (originally a Cisitalia 202 with Maserati A6GCS engine)? Not sure if there was one or two of these things created, but one apparently ended up here in California, where it was raced and eventually lost both the original body and engine.

Masters?
Not originally constructed in California, but could it be a later version of the Hawaiian Special built by Jim Granger 1962-63?
Yes it is the "Hawaiian Corvette Special", built by Jim Granger jr. at the "Granger Body Shop" in Los Angeles, on the basis of the "Hawaiian Special" with 2-litre Maserati-engine
Sadly, there is some mix-up to be found in your source:
1) "Hawaiian Special" with Maserati engine: Constructor: People on the island of Oahu, Hawaii, Location built: On the island of Oahu, Hawaii
2) "Hawaiian Corvette Special" (based on "Hawaiian Special"): Constructor: Jim Granger jr., Location built: Los Angeles, California
The puzzle car is 2)
I feel happy, to award you with a point. Some more information attached
