Internet bookstores
« on: September 28, 2010, 04:17:14 AM »
A question linked to the books - which internet bookstores do you recommend? (apart from amazon and ebay ;) )

I have good experience with Libreria dell'Automobile (www.libreriadellautomobile.it) and Enthusiast Books (www.enthusiastbooks.com), but it wasn't a conscious choice. They just happened to pop up in google results while I was looking for certain books.

So, what e-stores do you use? And what about some places with discount prices and used books?
It's not denial, I'm just very selective about the reality I accept.

The beauty of Amazon, IMO, is most everything that they sell is offered new and used, leveraging a vast network of partnered small bookstores. True of the CD offerings, too.

True :) Though it would be very convenient to have all the local amazon editions (US, UK, Germany, France etc.) linked together, like with eBay.

And it would be even better if those affiliates would ship outside USA, but usually they don't

Are you suggesting that we can all have our books sent to you and you'll send us?
How generous!  ;D

I'd be happy to, so long as my expenses are covered.

And, just like that, AutoPuzzles becomes the nexus for automotive publishing.

if you mean the vast network of partnered small bookstores, it's not true. I often ordered out of print books and they were shipped to me no problemo.

From what I reckon, around 40% of the partner stores ship outside the US. Though sometimes even those that don't, will ship if you ask.

Not sure if you want current books or out of print ones but in England http://www.collectorscarbooks.co.uk/ (Chris Knapman) is quite useful as is http://www.pooksmotorbooks.co.uk/ (Barrie Pook). Both sell on ebay  as  2210silbk and motoringmagpie respectively.

I don't know about Europe, but from the US, there is no longer any surface mail to other countries.  Also, the M-Bag, which was very cheap for sending a quantity of books and printed matter, is no longer available by surface.  Airmail costs quite a bit more, and you would likely pay $35 for a hardbound book.  I swap auto sales literature with others, but not in the quantity I used to!
