Yes, the car was designed and built in Australia. (The engine, and no doubt other components, came from elsewhere)

Is this a Ralt 1 ? In which case it was designed by Ron Tauranac and powered by a 1000cc Vincent engine. Built around 1951.

Ralt and Ron Tauranac are correct.  The year and engine are not.

Built 1949/50, with a Norton engine bored out to 600cc.

I think the photo was taken in 1956. The driver could be Merv Ward.

Well the Norton started out as a 500cc but it was developed over the years and stretched to 600cc.
