Solved: Rust never sleeps - Carchitextra 2
« on: March 09, 2020, 07:28:30 AM »
Life is boring at Master level! So there is ample of time to create mind-bending puzzles. So here it is: the new version of "Rust never sleeps - Carchitextra"! All you have to do is to find a connection between one of the more or less rusty cars in the first section, one of the pieces of architecture in the second section, and one of the pictures in the Extra section. In order to make it not too easy, there won't always be a direct connection between all three pictures of the right combination. It might be that the architecture might link to the extra because of the location, and the rusty car doesn't link to the architecture, but only to the extra by name similarity. Or the other way around. Just try and find out. I hope this puzzle will last long enough to reach Master level in a few weeks with still many combinations to be found.  ;D
One point for each triple combination found, no lock for just identifying a single picture. Have fun!

Wow, this is a very tough one. I recognise many of the vehicles in the Rust section and can make a second connection in either the Architecture or Extra sections, but trying to find a three-way link is not so easy. Someone needs to kick this Puzzle off though, so here’s an attempt, though probably way off beam!

Rust AI: Dutton Sierra
Architecture 2: Ford Sierra production line (model name share, plant possibly Genk, Cologne, Dagenham...)
Extra J: Ford Escort MK 2 (the Dutton’s mechanical donor)

As I say, I’m not totally certain if I’m on the right road here, but it’s a start!
A car is for life, not just for Christmas.

Yes, this puzzle is meant to be tough, but your first attempt is a good start. As Meat Loaf sang: Two out of three ain't bad.
Rust AI: Dutton Sierra and Architecture 2: Ford Sierra production line belong together, but the Extra Ford Escort will be needed for another combination. Rust AI and Architecture 2 are locked for you.

Thank you for the Lock on the Dutton puzzle, which I will come back to shortly if that's okay (unless it's Extra i, amphibious vehicles that can cross the English Channel, as per Dutton's Surf, Mariner and Reef models?).

In the meantime, I think I might have made another three-way connection now, as follows:

Rust 5: Checker Galva II prototype (a stretched Chevrolet Citation, as pictured below)
Architecture 14: Kalamazoo (home of Checker Motors) Public Library building
Extra g: Stretched Volkswagen Rabbit-based Checker cab prototype

Not Extra i

Perfect, except that the building is Kalamazoo City Hall.

Ah, good to have got the first one out of the way, and sorry for mistaking Kalamazoo City Hall as the Public Library.

I'll revised the Dutton trio again shortly, but wonder in the interim if I might have found another connection, so here goes:

Rust 5: Siata SEAT 600 Formichetta, a high-roof Spanish commercial derivative of the Fiat 600
Arch 13: The Spanish Siata factory, based in Taragona
Extra o: Another non-Italian Fiat 600-based derivative; the unique Austrian Steyr-Puch 'Puch S' Spider prototype

I assume that you've identified the Siata Formichetta and just mistyped, as it is Rust X.
Architecture 13 is the Siata Espanola Tarragona Poligon Entrevies factory and it is cconnected to the Siata Formichetta.
Extra o is not the connection I had in mind, although correctly identified.
Rust X and Architecture 13 locked for you.

Oophs, I'm not sure how I managed to mis-type Rust X as 5! Anyway, thanks for the second Lock.

I've now got a bit too hooked into this puzzle (when I should be doing some work!), but here's another attempt:

Rust E: The electric JS6 version of the Ligier JS9 vsp, as used by the pioneering (but failed) CW (City Wheels) car sharing scheme in Coventry in the late 1980s. A surviving example of the CW JS6 can be found today at the excellent Coventry Transport Museum
Arch 11: Coventry's distinctive 'Elephant' building, reflecting the English 'motor' city's historic elephant mascot on the Coventry coat of arms.
Extra aj: The EasyMile EZ10 autonomous vehicle, developed by Ligier and presented on its stand at the Paris Salon a few years ago.

Oh silly me, it was staring me in the face all along! The third element of this Siata link must be Extra l (L), an AVIA/EBRO van, with EBRO taking over Siata Espanola and production of certain ex-Siata commercial vehicle models (SEAT 850 Minivan etc.) in 1972.

Sorry to disappoint you. The Avia-Siata link is one I wasn't aware of, so it isn't the link I am looking for.

Are the other connections of the Extra o (Steyr-Puch 'Puch' S Spider) as follows with an Austrian connection?,

Rust U: Steyr 220 (Glasser possibly)?
Arch 18: Salzburg Museum Gallery where the celebrated Festival is usually held

Oh, that's a blow as there is a direct Siata-AVIA-EBRO connection. Here's an EBRO branded ex-Siata SEAT 850 Minivan below, plus the Siata original, with an AVIA badged version also sold in Spain.

So, is Extra d (D) the missing link, a Siata panel van?

OK, I think I've got the missing Extra link now for the Dutton Sierra. It is of course Extra v, which is the USA-market 1970 special edition Renault 10 Sierra, which obviously shares it name with the Dutton kit car. Phew, that's a relief as I really do now need to do some work! Oh, and I can't seen to remove this text from this 'quote' background area, hence it appearing in bold!!

Good idea, but Rust U is not a Steyr.
Architecture 18 is Salzburg, but not connected with Extra o.
