2011 Detroit Autorama
« on: March 01, 2011, 05:13:56 AM »
First batch of pics from my foreshortened visit to the 2011 Autorama at Detroit's Cobo Hall. My daughter took ill after less than 2 hours (why do I continue to take her to these things?) and I missed a lot of great cars.

First two pics:
"The Scythe" is a Galpin Auto Sports creation. There was no other information posted with the car, and the owner was not around.

Yellow car:
"Looney Tunes" Rat Rod has been making the Autorama rounds for a couple of years.

Next up:
With solid (non-turning) front drive and rear-wheel steering,'27 Ford roadster is powered by a 1948 Buick straight eight. Built by Steve Grimes of Columbus, Ohio

Lakester:
Dan Webb built this recreation of the Phil Remington Modified. The original Remington Mod was a well turned-out car with some serious performance cred.

Corvette:
Bruce Milyard and John Martin built this Ridler Award finalist, called "Elegance".This '62 Corvette has an LS7 427-inch Corvette engine.

Jaguar:
1955 Jaguar XK 140 built by Deez Rodz and Ridez and owner Fred Jaekel of Ontario, Canada. 350 GM crate engine with fuel injection

...more tomorrow.

IŽd really like to drive this Steve Grimes creation. Must be a daringly sick ride...

Thank you to show those cars. We do not see stuff like this too often over here in Germany.

My pleasure!

Another batch:

Green Car:
1946 Ford Custom by Larry Grobe. The name "Voodoo Idol" is painted on the back and the car was supposed to be a tribute to Gene Winfield

Blue Roadster:
1932 Lincoln dubbed "Second Wind".

Imperial:
Murray Pfaff built this radical 1959 Imperial, now a Hemi-powered, 2-seet speedster

Two-tone Caddy:
This '64 Cadillac, named "Cambiar", was a project penned by Profound Design, and prepared by many hands, including those at the late Boyd Coddington's shop.

Black Monster:
The "Twice Blown Delivery" is a 32 Ford with (you got it) two supercharged 572 CI Keith Black Hemi mills, said to generate a total of 2500 HP. Wicked!

Brown Sedan:
1951 Chevy Business Coupe owned by Derrick Samson of Marshall, MO: "Business Edition". This one was a Ridler Award "Great 8" contender. Perhaps a bit too tidy and subdued to take the big prize…

Chevy Coupe:
1932 Chevy "Driven", from the Altered Street Coupe, Pre-35 category (sorry about the shakey focus)

White Dragster:
1980 AMC AMX, Super Gas dragster

Yellow Lakester:
The Fred Carillo Roadster, which ran 178 MPH at Bonneville back in '51. Carillo later made engine parts that helped Jack Brabhjam win his F1 title, and helped power the Ford GT win at LeMans. The Booneville run was orginally disqualified, becahse the sleek yellow car was a fraction of an inch too narrow. Carillo and co-builder Robert Betz taped bits of cardboard on the sides, and the car's legaliity was reinstated.

Two-Tone Convertible:
Seem's every other car at the show was aping the tired Chip Foos 2-tone paint scheme. This '65 Goat was well tuned out, with a supercharged LS2.

Big Pontiac:
This 1960 Pontiac Ventura, restored by Bill Graham, won a ribbon at the 2010 Meadowbrook Concours d'Elegance

Blue Roadster:
This '32 Ford Roadster, built by Rob Green, was one of my favorites of the show.

Red Pickup:
WyoTech trade school instructor Harry Welmann built this '54 Chevy

Dodge Dragster:
Hap and Jean Gooder of Ontario, Canada, brought this '65 Dodge Coronet with a 426 Hemi
