Cars and dogs are a lot alike, in many ways. Some of the most faithful dogs are rescued mutts, and some of the most dependable cars can be ungainly beaters salvaged from the previous owner who didn't love it anymore. And the most exotic of each can be the most painful to endure, when, after spending a small or large fortune to acquire them, they don't do what they are supposed to do.
But dogs love to ride in cars, we love to drive cars, and the two just seem to go together. In this thread, cars and dogs, juxtaposed in photos.

Dog lovers may not agree, but I see several examples of two dangerous situations here:
- Dogs and children: I know several kids who have painful memories of dog teeth.
- Dogs and cars : Dogs (male dogs at least) are prone to pee on your car's wheels and whitewall tires.
-
I've been bitten by a dog as a child, and the only lasting problem is increased whisker production when there is a full moon. [attachimg=1]
I used to have a dog who always stopped at my car first, when he was let out to pee. So I bought a house with a garage. Problem solved. :)

Two more:

A bit ruff on Monday morning.

This is slightly off topic, I reckon, for two obvious reasons, but I couldn't resist.
-
An unbearable transgression ;)

English members will recognise "Gladly" and the child she-bear, no doubt.

Is she cross-eyed or just myopic? ;D
(I assume you're referring to "Gladly my cross I'd bear"?)

Leila, who has been a family pet for two years, can open doors and is a good guard dog.

What a nice little dogy... :)

If I only knew what this is... :(
It seems to have been a custom built dog-car for a 1928 or 1929 MGM production.
Does anybody know more?

Dogs as essential automotive parts...

I ate the dog first !

Awesome... :D

A french one:

Anybody got an idea about the car?

Wow!

Diamonds In The Ruff :)

Not a car, but also motorized:

I know this isn't really appropriate, but I couldn't help sharing this snap I took the other day. Anyone want to guess the car?

The famous german actor Heinz Rühmann in a 1933 movie, assisted by some animals:

I love this 1929 Berlin race-style dog!

Your driver is ready, Sir:

Another one from the USA (1931):

Hardly a car, but a dog with attitude:

This isn't so much "car AND dog" as it is "car AS dog". It is a man's tribute to his dearly departed faithful companion, and is now going up for sale. Google "car as sheepdog" for the whole story.

:lmao:

Steering dogs were quite popular in the 20s and 30s:

Here's my trusty companion taking over driver duties in my trusty steed on a New Zealand road trip a couple years ago.

Why not a topic about cats and cars?

Big car, small dog.

Until someones starts a topic labeled "Cars and swans", maybe this one can kindly give shelter to this slightly off-topic picture.

I know, it's not a dog. But having already posted in this topic images of two bears, a swan, a cat, a cow and a leopard, I hope nobody will mind.

The new presenter of Top Gear:
-
I was watching a TV show this evening about dogs and their intelligence and trainability and would you believe it the dog I pictured above was featured!
His name is Monty and he's a cross-bred schnauzer - and he's been taught how to drive!
Some scientists in Australia have fitted the car with special controls for acceleration and braking and he's learnt how to steer the car. They allow him to drive it without a human in the car, but his controller runs alongside the car barking instructions to him.
Amazing.

Probably a lot more likely than the recent TV show in the UK which claimed it had taught a dog how to fly! The amount of input the dog offered is open to debate.

Ten years? Ten pics

That man will never be president of the United States!
