Title: Crash!
Post by: Iluvatar on March 11, 2012, 06:12:30 PM
...maybe I'm little sadistic... but when I saw these three pics I though this can be an interesting topic for the Featured Imagery section...
What about pictures of vintage, rare and special cars heavily (or softly too) crashed?
Both race and road cars...
Maybe something similar already exist... if so... sorry and I please ask to the moderators to merge the threads...

Three crashed Lancia Aurelia for you...  :faint:

Vintage pics only! Thanks!!  ;)

The second picture shows the car of Luigi Fagioli - he crashed in practice for the Monaco Grand Prix (Jun. 12, 1952) and died three weeks later from the injuries.

I didn't check if a similar topic existed, but many automotive websites hesitate to show that kind of pictures, because, you know why?, a crash often means dead people.

Yes... this can be a good problem... I wait for moderators-administrators opinion before adding more pics...

Thanks... I obviously agree with no blood and corpes... only metal (or fibreglass...) bodies...

The right man at the right time standing at the perfect place...

The right time and place is right on the money.   I can't begin to number the shots (not just crashes...I'd prefer to get good racing shots) that I've missed by being in transit between locations, pointing the camera at something else or just having the camera "down."  I've been able to get some real good ones by being prepared and in a good place, too.  But many times it's just an issue of "time and place."

I'll post a couple more sequences later today, but right now it's time to watch the Monaco GP on dvr.

Great pics RayTheRat, but they don't fit the theme of this section... it's for vintage crashed cars... not race accident sequences...
Maybe we can add a limitation to the 80s... like Otto Puzzell do in the "Cars and ?" section...
If you would like to add some of your own, pictures should be from before 1980.

Here's part of what you asked for in the first post:
"What about pictures of vintage, rare and special cars heavily (or softly too) crashed?
Both race and road cars..."

I understood the phrase, "pictures of vintage, rare and special" to include include contemporary photos of that type of car.  I define race cars as "special" as opposed to the everyday variety of car.

What I didn't read was "vintage pictures of...."  If that's what you wanted and it had been stated that way, I never would have posted any of these in this thread.

I can't say I'm sorry for doing something that wasn't clearly stated, but I won't post any more of my racing photos.

Well, that's not what I had hoped to see.  :(

I'll start a category for "Car Pictures from the Cameras of The AutoPuzzles Members".

That new category sounds like a very good idea.  Perhaps you can move my posts to that category to prevent any continuing "issues" in this thread.

I think (which gets me into trouble a lot) that it would be a good idea to make a suggestion to those who start threads requesting photos to state whether they want vintage photos only OR if they want contemporary photos of vintage material, or if only, as you stated, from the cameras of members."  Maybe a sticky in the Featured Imagery category to set some sort of guidelines.  Normally, I'd be the first to argue against additional rules, guidelines, regulations, laws, bylaws...you get the picture.  Oops.  Bad pun.  But maybe something brief would be helpful in this case.

Otto, I offer my apologies to you for what I perceive as having been a bit of a thorn in your side.  It's certainly not my intent to do that...but I seem to be able to do it without even trying.
