Title: Gran Premio Nuvolari
Post by: MG on September 21, 2010, 04:18:38 AM
Last Saturday, I stood in Il Campo in Siena while 330 cars of interest paraded by. I didn't know what many of them were, but it was fun being there any way.  You can see all of them at this link:  www.constableri.com/Nuvolari.htm.

Ciao!

Il Campo looks much more interesting than it was when I was last there! At least I didn't have to cope with the Palio:

We Europeans can make a stab at identifying most of those cars, in some cases helped by visible UK registration plates.
The list of competitors is here but there are a few traps for the unwary http://www.gpnuvolari.it/eng/competitor-list.asp (http://www.gpnuvolari.it/eng/competitor-list.asp)
Strangely no UK entrants, it would appear.

The Palio must be a most interesting event. I am told they bring in truckloads of sand to cover the track with and that the excitement level is equivalent to a World Cup final match!  What interests me most is that they have been doing this since long before Columbus weighed anchor in Genoa.

Among the world's nations, America is the equivalent of a teenager, at best.  And acts like it...... :faint:

We Europeans can get a lot of simple pleasure out of showing our US visitors things that pre-date Columbus.
Even pre-independence is good so near here is a church where people who were given refuge from the plague carved grafitti in the stonework, including an image of London's St Paul's cathedral which was near where they were from.
It looked like

rather than the 18th century one that replaced it after the Great Fire
