Earlier this year we decided that it would be nice to pay a visit to the Loire Valley in France and check out some castles. We figured that our son, Bruno will be one and a half year old by then and he'd also enjoy the trip. But travelling with a little kid can be tiresome, and as we travelled by car a route was devised which included frequent stops on the way to France and on the way back.
I have also checked my nice automuseums.info (http://automuseums.info) guide to include some nice car museums.
All in all the trip was a success. We've seen over a dozen very nice castles. You can see some photos on flickr (http://www.flickr.com/photos/pnegyesi/collections/72157624713432407/)
Some have been restored to top-notch condition, some are just shadows of their old self. But each one had its charm, like Blois where the interior was totally refurbished in the 1840s. Based on period paintings and inventories it was recreated to look like a medieval castle.
And then there's the Chateau de Villesavin, where photography was not allowed. It's a smaller castle which is owned by a "normal" family (not aristocrats) and it includes a nice collection of wedding dresses.
Or Montpoupon where the very old kitchen was still in use in the 1970s. And so on.
And then there were some car museums. Detailed reports will be available on automuseums.info in the coming days, but for now, I'll share some photos here.
