Title: Popemobiles
Post by: jotage21 on February 24, 2014, 08:59:47 PM
Some cars used by the Pope, AKA Popemobiles. The Flaminia is not a Popemobile, but made to Italian President, but maybe the Pope had ride in it someday. The car identified as Lancia Thesis is actually Lancia Giubileo, from 2000.

The Lancia Flaminia is not for the Pope. It's one of the four made by Pininfarina for the President of Italian Republic.
And the correct name for the Thesis is "Lancia Giubileo". In 2000 the Thesis didn't exist yet (was introduced in 2002), and that car was a preview.

Last comment: do you know that the Popemobil always carries the plate "SCV 1"?
The protocol says that when the Pope is going to use a car, it must have His plate.

Thank you for the information, I´ve seen the Flaminia and the Giubileo in a report in a site about the Popemobiles, but I´m sure that if someone is right is You ;)
I´ll correct my post.
BTW, do You have some info about the Fiat 130 posted by Grobmotorix?

Fiat Nuova Campagnola, an important Popemobil as it was not only used during the visit of the Pope John Paul II in Turin in 1980 but also it was the car on which he was when was shooted in 1981.
It was also the car used for the first ride among the people by Benedict XVI a few minutes after his election in 2005.

A not very known popemobile: white Fiat Ducato minibus uesd to visit Emilia after the earthquake in 2012. Sorry for the poor pictures.
By the way, for my "real" job with modern cars, I had a little involvement in making this one.

Built by British Leyland in 1982 for the Pope's visit to Scotland, the six-wheeled converted truck has since been used by the late Pontiff during his visits to Zimbabwe and Botswana in 1988 and Zambia in 1989.

Latest popemobile: Francesco visiting Turin to see the Holy Shroud on June 20th 2015.
You know, he is very informal and clearly asked us a regular car, a good comfortable new Fiat Doblò, not even painted white.
