Title: Rotten and forgotten - european cars and places
Post by: grobmotorix on February 11, 2011, 03:21:37 PM
I´ve searched through the tons of my photos and tried to show a pictorial anthology of lost places and rotten and forgotten technology in the area I´m living.

Hope you´ll like it.

Otto is right.  First class work.  The spookiness is palpable.

Grob: these pictures are far beyond anything I've seen here!
Such a great quality!

I would hang up the image of the Zagato Lancia as a poster in my room!

Thank you all!

@Allemano:
The "Zagato Lancia" is a first series Alpine A210.

I´ve found this one inside the never finished huge Nazi "Collosseum" at the former "Reichsparteitaggelände" in Nuremberg.
It was meant to be a huge Congress Hall (Kongresshalle).
The photo with the Alpine shows where the various spectator levels were planned...

A spooky place even today:

No, actually from the 310 series!  :D

However I had this in mind:

Ahem, that´s 1:1, I guess.. :D

Sure it looks much like the Lancia.

Wonder if it might be there, still?

There has been a bunch of rotten NSU Ro80, too, some years ago
They were crammed into one little black cave in the Collosseum´s infield...

Being a fan of 1920s Bauhaus architecture, I am interested to know where the derelict building on the pictures #8 and #20 might be..

BTW, great pictures!

I once was at a fair in Nuremburg. (Why not call it "Just a mountain"...). Certain parts of the fair, where for example the Noris ring races are held as well, are spooky. And then to think that people go up there to take pictures...

Grob, as a recent member of Auto Puzzles, as you know I am a big fan of your work and hugely impressed.
These recent shots are of a different style/subject matter (sort of) and just as beautifull as any of your other work.
I just love them!!!

Now please tell me, which one is the Lancia Zagato?
I'm somewhat embarassed that I can't identify it.

Thank you Vincent.

Well, Allemano thought, that the car in the second picture was the Lancia Zagato. In fact it is an early (Renault) Alpine A 310.

Ok, thanks. I can see that it's an Alpine now that you mention it.

And also, could you or someone identify the woody wagon for me?
Why does the wood go vertically, is that someones attempt at customizing perhalps? ? ? WeIrDnEsS!i!i!i!

I just love re-viewing this thread each time I log onto Puzzland!!!  :)
Such beauty!

If I remember it correctly, the Woodie was an IFA F8, built in the former GDR, based upon pre-war DKW technology.

Every wooden shed or garage door with a wooden surface has vertically oriented boards simply due to gravity.
The water and rain can run down directly and does not get into the inside of the construction to make it rot away.

Then the car looks like a rolling shed, of course  :D

It does not fit the bill entirely, as these are probably not forgotten.

Added some pictures of the same place but then years before I took the other pictures. As you might be able to see, the cars on the left side have changed.

Nice ones!!!
What's that big thirties car in the third pic? She's a beaut!
Did you happen to peek under the cover of that huge car in the 5th pic?
Love that big MG sedan. Magnette isn't it?

A, that thirties cars isn't one. It's a Triumph (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Triumph_Renown) though.

As this was a private house, with a big fence around it and warning signsI was being filmed, I thought it prudent not to go in and take a peek.

I believe you are right with the MG.

Just found a couple of shots suitable for this topic when I was sorting through some old photos yesterday.

The first one I took near Arma di Taggia, Italy in 1988. The cars were sitting on a building site for a new supermarket and I believe they were just dumped there and belonged to nobody. I doubt if they are still there!

The second was sighted near Nice airport 1995 in the back garden of a garage repair business. I think they are still there.

Thank you for those photos!
The first one is really stunning.
The old Topolino, the Lancia just standing there without any fence...
