Workin' in the fillin' station - too many tasks. Wipe the windows - check the tires - check the oil - dollar gas!
Ol' Chuck got what he wanted, I guess, as that kind of service is mostly a memory, or an image in a movie. But for the first three-quarter centuries of the automobile's history, 'full service' meant just that. A Dollar gas would get you pretty far, and you'd be looking at the open road through a crystal-clear windshield, to boot.
In this thread I've begun a collection of photos of various cars getting serviced, although some are far from a traditional filling station setting.
