An ambulance (!) with wood gas converter. I'm not sure about the car. At first sight I thought it might be a Renault Vivaquatre Commerciale, but it doesn't match completely.

A Chrysler Airflow doesn't really get any prettier with a wood-gas generator...

Here´s a BMW 320 with wood gas generator:

It's a BMW 335 (4 doors and build in headlights).

At the spring trade fair in Leipzig in February 1956, a Chinese delegation asked for a version of the IFA H 3 for operation with anthracite gas generators in Tibet.
This sounded so interesting that the first test vehicle was trialled as early as April. In July, all three vehicles are ready for use.
They were transported to China by rail and then testing began on the high mountain route Lantschou-Gormo-Lhasa and back. Including passes with altitudes of up to 5400 metres. The start for the total of around 4500 kilometres was in October!
There was a lot of work with refuelling, filling up with water, high mountain passes, water crossings, washboard roads and, and, and...
The vehicles passed the test well, but the diesel version was ordered after all.
