Spa 6 Hours 2011
« on: October 05, 2011, 02:00:58 PM »
I was lucky enough to be invited to the Spa 6 Hours event by some friends I used to race with at Le Mans a few years ago. They were racing an Elva Mk V in the Stirling Moss Trophy race.
I didn't have a lot of time to photograph all the cars in the paddock but did manage to snap a few.
The weather was fabulous and needless to say the event was incredible - 650 cars and 1,000 drivers.
If you get a chance to go - do it, you won't regret it. The access and viewing are first class.

Here are a few shots of the Elva in the paddock and on track. It ran like clockwork all weekend.

Looks like a fun time, any mid or rear engined cars there. ???
Yes it certainly was fun with a capital F.
Unfortunately I didn't get the time for much photography but there were many mid/rear engined cars competing including Ford GT40s, Lola T70 Mk IIIs, McLaren M1B & Cs, Abarth Osella PA1, Cooper Monaco King Cobra, Chevron B16, etc. plus many Porsches, both 911s and 904s.
Have a look at the Spa website - www.roadbook.be - to see the list of cars competing.
There are also numerous YouTube clips covering the event.
One of the outstanding (and surprising) cars there was a Talbot Sunbeam Lotus saloon, highly modified but was lapping only 1 second slower than the fastest GT40.
There is a good in-car footage of this car driven by Joss Ronchetti - pure magic!

I´ve been there, too!

But i´ve been quite busy during the last weeks so I wasn´t able to create my own Spa 2011 Six Hours post...

So, let´s se, maybe I´ll find the time this evening and show you some of my photos, too.

It´s been a great event as every year!

Great, I look forward to seeing your photos too.
Unfortunately there wasn't time to ask if anyone else would be there.
I'll be attending again next year and will let everyone know in advance - it would be good to meet up.

After a somewhat disappointing "Jan Wellem Pokal" (pics are still waiting for a downsize, will post them soon) at the Nürburgring, we think about to visit instead one of the classic car events at Spa next year. (Grob's pics did an excellent appetizer job)
Maybe there will be indeed a chance to meet, then.

That would great!
Spa is such an easy and informal event and as I said before the viewing is first class (as are the restaurant/toilet facilities).
We were blessed with perfect weather this year but it can often be the opposite unfortunately.

This weekend 14.-16.10.2011 there´s the fabulous 24h Citroen 2CV races at Spa.
I´ve been there every time over the last three years.
But unfortunately I´ll have to work through the whole weekend this year :-\

Many of strange and cool Deuches can be seen in every state - from original to radical.
And the races are fine, too, whereas I prefer the overall surrounding and the racing atmosphere, really.

But I think it will be a great event again:

Fantastic pictures.  Thanks for posting them.

Can I ask if there are more to come either from you, or from other members?

Thanks for the front page coverage, it's much appreciated. :)

Bezor - no more photos from me at present.
There will be more from the next event I attend.
