I do know that some of you guys out there have crammed their HD´s with tons of car photos.
I´d like to start a vintage pedal car thread out here, because we had some puzzles with those kid´s dreams of our grandfather´s generation.
Today I´ve found an amazing lot of original photographs with cars and some with pedal cars at a flea market in belgium.
The four "voitures a pedales" here stem from a private photo album.
It would be great if anyone could identify the makes of those exclusive toys from the past.
And please post photos of other pedal cars here, too (old puzzles?).
-
Here´s another of my current puzzles:
-
Here are a couple that I posted previously -
Cadillac built in the UK for the young King of Siam and the Pels children's car from the Netherlands
-
Wow!
Thank you - the Pels looks dramatic even today...
-
Rather more mundane, but I still haven't managed to identify the pedal car I had as a kid. It was bought secondhand in the late 1950s. I've had it posted on oldclassiccar.com (http://www.oldclassiccar.co.uk/pedal-cars.htm) for a while, but had no response.
The first reaction when people see it is that it's probably a Triang, but I've never seen another one of this design. Any ideas?

I drove this one. Didn't make any photos of my own, though, so here is the eBay one.

Here are few pedal cars I shot in 2008 at the oldtimer exhibition.
The Bugatti is a real Type 52, I suppose, but probably already electric, not pedal as it was initially.
-
@faksta:
I really like those Moskvich pedal cars. I think I have a magazine essay about the production of those somewhere in my collection.
I recall that they have been assembled by hand in the same factory where the real scale Moskviches have been built, too.

Here are three views taken in Australia of the same make of pedal car in 1939, 1965 & 2006.
Interesting to compare it with its larger cousins in various states from new, used and as found in the barn!

One of the ultimate cars for the younger generation
I think, on reflection, that my post (#35) may have been fitted with a motor (either electric or otherwise) and doesn't really fit into this thread.
It's possible a new topic for miniature powered cars could be created and I wouldn't wish to include these cars and reduce the importance of the true pedal car as we all remember it.
-
Holy cow ... had NO idea so many pedal cars existed! Now I want a few....LOL!

Technically, PedalCar002 is a soap-box derby car; the pedal actuates a friction brake. I think...

At least the top car is a pedal car.
Does anybody know anything about this shrinked Traction Avant???
Think I should make a puzzle out of it...

And a very very old example (pre WW 1) of a french pedal car. Shot in the 1950´s:
-
For Richy Rich: (11 HP mower engined by Briggs & Stratton, so no pedals I'm afraid, but I liked those kiddy fops)
-
Pedal car?
Finished in white, the 1:1.5 scale fibreglass body bears a striking resemblance to the real thing, the interior is nicely trimmed in red leather cloth with high-backed bucket style seats for two and there is a full complement of ‘real’ features, including electric lighting, horn and indicators and a radio cassette player. The steel chassis is of kart-type construction and the rear-mounted engine is a straightforward Briggs and Stratton unit rated at 5hp. Whilst the top speed quoted is a mere tenth of the 170 mph maximum of the original full-sized car, the cabin will accommodate teenagers or even smaller adults, at a pinch. In very good overall condition, this example would appear to have had very little use and a copy of the original sales

I know it was a coincidence. Of all the kiddie-cars on the internet, it seems we found the same photo on the same day, in two different places, and added them to AutoPuzzles.

Another one:

I have an original postcard of the "Straßen-Zepp" you posted. Unfortunately my laptop is not working correctly, so I can't scan it. But fortunately I found a picture of it in the net:
-
Here´s a front view in bad quality.
It has been named "Straßen-Zepp" (=Street Zeppelin) and in the second line I read "Möhrenkopp" (Carrot Head)...
The photo has been taken at May 20th 1932 in Berlin:
-
Yes, Möhrenkopp is correct. The four guys came from Oschersleben.
It even was made as a wooden toy car from the Erzgebirge (Ore Mountains):
-
Here´s a french pedal driven unicum:
-
That pedal monster looks like it was photographed in a hobo camp. Strange.
Here's a vintage pedal car...except I shot the photo last Saturday at a car show. The owner has a hobby/sideline of doing woodgrain painting. The yellow thing in the background is his 1946 Chevy pickup that has most of the trim done in painted woodgrain. Ahh...hell, I'll just attach a photo of it, too.
I don't know anything about the pedal car near the rear wheel. If I'd known I was gonna be posting to this thread, I woulda asked for some info. I DID ask the guy if he was selling 'em...and he said that if someone asks if they're for sale, he gives 'em a rather outrageous price...and if they decide they wanna pay the premium for it, that's fine. Then his wife said, "but he doesn't want to let any of 'em go." :)

The fire truck is interesting, but the true question is: What is it with the boy, behind the steering wheel...? A dog or a BEAR CUB?
-
Fast forward from 1936 to 2012 and here are a couple more "wood grain" pedal cars done by my friend Gary Lowe from Hooper, Utah. The first one was donated to a charity auction, the proceeds of which go to fund the Ed Roth/Rat Fink Museum in Manti, Ut where the car show was held. It's about 120 miles south of Salt Lake City. It was a great show, btw. Laid back, great people, old friends, new friends, and zero jerks. I thoroughly enjoyed it, even with the temperature in the mid-90s (roughly 35 C) and mostly sunny. Yeah, I got my head and neck sunburned again, but I kinda do it on purpose so that I'll be ready for the salt flats.
Meanwhile, back at the pedal cars, the 2nd one is one of Gary's keepers. As I was shooting these and his truck, several people came up and asked how he made the cars out of wood. The explanation was repeated that it's not wood, it's paint. He's very good at it...especially when ya consider that he's retired and this is a hobby, not something he's done all his life as a profession.
Ok. Enuff babbling (chalk it up to sleep deprivation); here are the pedal cars:

The picture seems too be from the 1950's.
The taxicab looks like a Renault, the ones that are supposed to have conveyed fresh troops to the front in 1914. Thanks for posting that Ray!
Seven people, including two World Champion Drivers, but 55-odd years later only three are still alive.
If this were another thread we could ask people to name them.

L-R Bruce Mclaren, Stirling Moss, Tony Brooks, Graham Hill, Joachim Bonnier, (I think) Wolfgang von Trips.
(The pedal car was made by Triang, a representation of a Ford Zephyr convertible).
PS Whoops! Sorry Allan, I didn't get as far as your post!
PPS is that Damon!!??
-
PPS is that Damon!!??
Yes, and he's one of the two World Champions (with Graham Hill) and one of the three still alive (with Moss & Brooks).

When I joined Autopuzzles in March 2010, I asked if anyone recognised the pedal car in my avatar. My father bought it secondhand in the late 1950s. I've never been able to find out who made it, and I've never seen another one like it - until today, that is!
It turns out to be a Leeway, made by Patterson Edwards (Leeway Toys) of Lewisham, South East London, and the front of it is intended to look like the radiator grille of a pre-war Triumph Dolomite.
It was apparently introduced in 1939, but production was stopped by WW2. I don't know if it was produced after the war, but as the Dolomite was an obsolete model by then, it's quite likely that it wasn't.

Co ngratulations on your find - nice to know what it is!

I just came across a series of pictures, showing pedal cars built by Richard Ellert of Gettorf. Comparing the pedal car to the BMW 700 it was carried on, the model was quite outdated by then. A personal highlight is one picture showing the Ellert pedal car together with another vehicle built in Gettorf, the WUG: https://www.autopuzzles.com/forum/2012-41/solved-wendax-450-wug-(werner-uttermohlen-gettorf)/msg443266/#msg443266

From my own old comic collection - Salamander is an old German shoe brand for children.
Decades ago when you bought a pair of those you always got one of their small comic brochures.
This is a one page comic strip about a soapbox race,
some sabotage and a winner due to his Salamander shoes - of course
-
My Lurchi comics must be somewhere in a box at my parents' home. ;)

Not a pedal car, but a working miniature automobile was this magnificent creation.
I found it in a silent news movie about Berlin in the year 1933.
Those are some screenshots.
This tiny car even had a licence plate "IA-35721" "IA = Berlin)
Has anybody seen this before ? - I´d like to find out the builder.
