Title: Rally For The Lane!
Post by: MG on September 27, 2011, 06:00:24 PM
Went to Nashville last weekend with a bunch of fellow car idiots to participate in The Rally For The Lane. Wrote an article about the adventure which is now up on the Hagerty Insurance website, complete with a photo gallery and a video. Here's the link:

Let me tell ya. Your life is not complete until you have driven a BRIGHT orange Citroen DS rally car!    ;D

More photos of the event and the Lane Motor Museum collection at this link: www.photobucket.com/lanemotormuseum

Enjoy!

VERY cool write up ... and I'm insanely jealous and disappointed that I wasn't there, too, particularly in my favorite city!

Astonishing! A Tatra 603 with a German plate of Munich. That would have been my choice.

I doubt if anyone in attendance knew that Tatra had a Munich plate on it. I know the two guys driving it did not. That's an interesting tidbit.

The Citroen DS I started with had a mechanical problem and I finished the event in a 1996 Tatra 700. What an interesting car! All aluminum, V-8, air cooled, fuel injected, dohc, rear mounted engine. It was a pretty nice car, except for the acres of fake wood on the dash. The fellow riding in back marveled at how much leg room there was back there.

I didn't mean the Tatra 700, but the 603 from page 4 of the Photobucket Lane Motor Museum stream. Maybe the pic was taken on another date/event or it didn't raced at all.

And it's an extremely rare and expensive car. Only about 65 pieces were built.

Did not mean to confuse the issue, Allemano. There were 5 of us who went to Nashville for the event. 2 drove the Tatra 603. 3 of us started out in the orange Citroen, but ended up in the Tatra 700 when the Cit's throttle cable started sticking. Listening to a Citroen engine spinning at 7000 rpm is a scary thing!   :o Even if it was for just a moment until I had the presence of mind to shut it down.

Both Tatras were given high marks for road manners and interior comfort. And the 700 had some serious scoot to it when the gas pedal got leaned on!    ;D

A big sedan with a rear V8 – simply irresistible...
I just checked the internet on cheap Tatras. No chance! Even for 603 rust buckets with 300.000 miles you pay at least € 5.000. For a Tatra 700 with 120.000 miles you pay €40.000 and for a Tatraplan €120.000.
