Just got my copy of C&SC - yep its the same picture ! And my name is in the article for having ID'd a previous car !

The picture wont be going back up !

I suggest a moderator simply deletes it.  It has no value now.  It  was originally posted not as a puzzle, but to see if anyone here knew what it was - and nobody did.

Got to agree with you Richard, I thought this had been closed off.

But yes it is almost the strangest set of posts in autopuzzles land.

The only weirder one I can recall was someone who started randomly deleting their puzzles after a disagreement....

Takes all sorts.
