Title: What is the proper name?
Post by: RayTheRat on April 30, 2012, 04:42:23 PM
De Dion Bouton?
De Dion-Bouton?
De Dion & Bouton?
De Dion et Bouton?

Georgano shows De Dion-Bouton as the paragraph header, but then has photos titled "De Dion Bouton."

Could the company name and the names of the cars be different?

Furthermore, was the GP car of 1908 named "De Dion" without M. Bouton's name appended?  (photo attached.)  If so, are there any other cars with the name of a single partner?  (I'm aware of De Dion, Bouton & Trepardoux.)

Thanks,

RtR

Welcome to my pain, Ray.  The bulk of the car guys just will not visit this section of the board.

With as many websites as I manage, I understand totally.  Sometimes you have to beat people on the head to get them  to realize that the answer to the question was on the section that was done the previous week.

Do ya think it would be better if it was moved to "General Automotive?"

ps.  Cort, if you're reading this, I love the red shirt.  It'd sure be easy to find ya on the salt flats.  :)

I was about to click out of this, when I spotted my name!

Thanks!  Yes, it sure would be.  Is that a hint? ;)

I have always used "De Dion Bouton" without any additions, etc. but stand to be corrected if others come up with something irrefutably indefensible...... :D

The proper name is probably the hyphenated one, as it is written on their stocks. But in their advertisements they used it with and without hyphen. The badge carried a raised dot instead of the hyphen. You can even find different variants on one car (see below).  :D

Well.  I guess they were as confused back then as I am now.  :)
Thanks for the images and the info.  I'll just remove the hyphen and not worry about it any more.
