Title: Women and cars
Post by: pnegyesi on May 12, 2024, 04:40:28 AM
Dear AutoPuzzlers. For now this is a small exercise to jog your memory. Maybe it will lead to an article :)
I am looking for cars named after women. Both brands and models - but no nicknames please.

So cars like the Monica, the Austrian Daimler Maja, obviously Mercedes, Lotus Elise and the Nissan Silvia

Thanks

Thanks for trying, but almost every single one of these refers to a nickname. That is why I am not a big fan of AI.

Cleared the list from obvious badly generated replies but I also clearly misunderstood the initial post; you're looking for both manufacturers and models to have female names. :)
Shelby Dakota

Shelby Dakota

Thank you
Either one is fine
But it has to be a model name, not someone's nickname for his/her car.

There are some really great examples, like the Monica and the Iso Lele - both named after the builders' wives

Unfortunately ChatGTP takes all the fun out of it.
Where's the fun asking for a list to be generated then repeating it?

Are there really women named Marbella? The SEAT Marbella was named after the famed coastal town in Andalucia..

Yes, thanks for reminding me. I saw this car about 3 years ago. Now its restoration is complete, we'd do an article about it!

We already featured the Pussycar many issues ago

But based on all these suggestions, an article idea starts to take shape! Thank you (keep them coming please)

Austin Seven Ruby

I always thought "Ruby" was a nickname rather than its official name, but according to one auction site:

"Introduced in 1934, the Ruby variant was an addition to the existing Saloon line-up, whose distinguishing features were a longer bonnet, cowled radiator and down swept tail incorporating an enclosed spare wheel."

The Dagmar was built by Crawford Automobile Company, it was named after owner Mathias Moller's daughter.

Pearl's a good one although I have no idea what an Austin Seven Pearl is...
I haven't come across any ladies named Opal though (or anyone actually called Amazon!)

Thank you.
It sounds like a femaile name, but it is actually named after Dora Riparia, a river which got its name from the latin word for canals.
