Anyone know anything about Ann Arbor?

I don't know that I would even have the option, but there is a remote possibility of me getting a job offer in Ann Arbor.

Anyone care to tell me what they know about the area? The only thing I know about the area is a negative dirty image of Detroit.

Ann Arbor is not at all like Detroit. It's a collge town (with all the good and bad that implies), has a fair number of high-tech companies, and is the city chosen by Toyota, Hyundai and otheres for their US technical operations - so you might be able to snap some spy pics for us!

Ann Arbor is the most cosmopolitan town in Michigan.    A great place, IMHO.  Check the job out.

Well the shake out has begun...

I work for a trucking company based in AA. They finally told us yesterday that they are shutting down our office here and moving all duties to AA. They gave us the terms of our exit/severance package today. Unfortunately, they won't be able to give us any idea what our exit date might be until mid-October.

I still have no reason to think they will offer me a spot in AA (or that I would even take it), but I posted this just to get some info on the area so that I would have a better understanding of the area should something be offered.

The business reason behind this restructuring is very logical and makes one wonder why it didn't happen years ago. Logic would tell me that the mailroom guy, my boss and/or I will be the last 2 or3 to leave the building. Someone has to break down the computers, servers and network , pack them and ship them out.

Ann Arbor is a great town.  If given the chance to move there you should strongly consider it.

2nd-ed. Although I'm not sure how well a Texan would be able to cope with Michigan winters, even of the southeastern variety.
