They will, just not with a single person.  Recall Bush's mandate with his "equity" statement ("I'm gonna spend my equity").  Side note, how telling that ruinous statement that foreshadowed the mortgage crisis.  This time it's both houses and the presidency that determines the mandate.  And with no Habeas Corpus and other legal standards shredded by Bush, Obama has possibly more leeway than Bush in his second term "mandate".

And what's with the GOP kicking Palin under the bus?  Jebus, leave the woman alone, you picked her and now she's worse than roadkill?  She wasn’t good enough after all says you?  What's the message the GOP is sending with all the nasty commentary about Palin?

I don't have much faith in polls (they provide the answer being sought by the poll creator), but these folks live and die by polls. The exit polls showed that of those respondents that said Palin mattered, they tended to vote for the M/P ticket by something like 6%...all that to say, they should be courting her to stick around...without her, even fewer R's would have shown up!

I haven't said anything about Scott Brown.  The signs point to the trend of the voting electorate.

I'm sure you meant that as a compliment.  I think.

Anyway, I think Ultra is correct, sort of.  Let me explain.  The electorate is like a monkey in an experimental cage. It runs to one side of the cage - let's call it the right side - and gets a powerful electric shock. And so it runs to the other side of the cage......and gets a powerful electric shock. The problem is that it has no options other than right or left, because the PTB have succeeded in building a cage to place the electorate in in the first place!      We just keep running from the right side of the cage to the left and back again in some sort of crazy frenzy trying in vain to find relief from the last shock. I think the idea that billions upon billions where doled out to undeserving corporations while ordinary people were left to fend for themselves in the current economic maelstrom has left a bitter taste for the current administration in a lot of people's mouths. And so now they are ready to rush headlong to the right side of the cage again.

What Us The People REALLY need are options not included on the traditional Column A/Column B political menu.

It has not been a good week for me, OP, for reasons that you probably know nothing about. It's possible that I am a trifle touchy. More than usual, that is.

You may not have seen it out there is East Podunk, but several of the local newspapers reported that Brown made an ass of himself at his press conference by pointing out which of his two daughters were "available". According to the reports, even his wife was looking a bit stricken as he rambled on, even speculating about whether SHE might be "available".

Some people find themselves at critical junctures of history that sweep them along in the tide whether they are worthy or not. I think Brown is one of those who is capitalizing on such a phenomenon. Already, some are talking about him running for President in two years. People are ravenous for someone, anyone, to give them hope that the great maw of government is not going to swallow us all whole, chew us up and spit us out.

Personally, I think Brown has rather narrow shoulders to support the burden his party would like to place upon him at this moment. I think he is the "Joe the Plumber" du jour.  These are opinions and as such are not susceptible of scientific proof. You are free to accept them or reject them as you see fit, Es ist mir egal

One of your co-conspirators is anxious to pump up the discussion portion of this site. I was only trying to provoke some discussion. But if I have to justify every thing I have to say - which is mostly hot air, anyway - I really have neither the desire nor the inclination to do so.

I'm sorry to hear of your travails. Re-reading what I said, I broke one of my own rules. I jumped from attacking a statement, to attacking the person making the statement. I apologize if I offended you in any way, and hope that you will continue to speak you mind on any topic you wish. .

Like I said, I may be somewhat more touchy than normal these days. Grieving always entails the three essential phases - disbelief followed by anger followed by acceptance. I'm somewhere in phase 2 right about now.   

Nonetheless, I sense a ferment among the populace, brain dead as they may be. People are stirring and they are angry. The Founding Fathers feared the mob rule of and aroused citizenry as much or more than they feared the armies of George III. Populism IS mob rule, by definition.

I myself am greatly disaffected by what I see happening in the corridors of power these days. Every shining promise turns to lead. We are further beaten down, kicked aside and enslaved by our government. And in my heart of hearts, I know it is only going to get worse, because those in power will cling to power with an iron determination that knows no bounds. Decency, intellect, history all inveigh against what is happening, but ultimately the quest for power is stronger than virtually all human needs, short of air, food and water. It is insidious, all encompassing and pernicious. We are all now little more than pawns who serve faceless and unseen masters.  Brave New World indeed.

Over at that "other place", it is no longer permitted to post such incendiary thoughts lest ripples appear in the calm waters of camaraderie that now engulf that domain. Go figure.  The new ayatollah says a voice has not been stilled because that voice can be heard at other venues. That's like saying all the Germans had to do to find out what the Jews were thinking was take a trip to Auschwitz or Buchenwald or Treblinka. Tortured logic is so interesting, don't you think?
