Got a couple of really cool DVDs for Christmas, Cars and Vanishing Point.  I've watched Cars twice already, saving Vanishing Point for New Year's Eve...gonna bring in the New year right!

Found VP at Wal Mart in the bargain bin, and it's the wide screen edition.

I've noticed that our post/view ratio for this topic has dipped below 50%. SOMEBODY is viewing without posting!  Maybe we should all post twice each time we visit this topic for awhile.

I don't think posting twice will help. Each post will be viewed once so once you get behind, you remain behind.

Of course, I may be making stuff up. If I refresh a whole buncha times, it may do nothing at all. Of course, it may just drive the count right into the toilet.

Just picked up the Sports Illustrated Collector's Issue the other day...they predict that Tony Stewart will be the '07 Nextel Cup Champion and that Juan Montoya will probably win at least one race, probably one of the road courses.  i can see Tony winning the Cup again, but I think Montoya will have his work cut out for him next year; he has to learn how to drive the contemporary car and the Car Of Tomorrow at the same time.

If anybody can adjust quickly to NASCAR, it'll be Juan, but I think he'll struggle for the first year...he may not even be Rookie-Of-The -Year.  And that so-called Car Of Tomorrow; well...I just don't see it being much of a cure-all for the issues NASCAR hopes it'll address.  It will be slower, with more downforce, but the teams with the most resources will find the little tweaks that will elude the smaller teams.

The Toyotas are supposedly competetive right out of the box, if reports from an open test session at Michigan International Speedway are accurate; but SI's prediction that a Toyota team will challenge for the chase is a bit of a tall order, IMO.

These are my observations...what do the rest of you guys think?

They're still running NASCAR?

Tifosi

Yeah, 36 races is a looooonnngg schedule, isn't it?  That probably has a lot to do with NASCAR's declining popularity over the last couple of years.  The IRL usually ends in September, F1 in October, and Champ Car about the same time, but NASCAR goes on and on...all the way up to Thanksgiving, and with the banquet during the Christmas season.  I caught a glance at the Truck series banquet, and there were Christmas decorations all over the place.

Would you watch a prime-time TV series over 36 weekly episodes?  Sometimes, that's what NASCAR seems to be to me...maybe it's time to cut back on the schedule...

Arthur Dent

Spotted a Bond Bug today ... well the shell of one anyway. There was a shell of an Isetta behind it.

I'm looking forward to the 24 hours of Daytona this year.   It looks to have a stellar driver line-up.

Probably sad to say, but I am not looking forward to watching any of the racing season this year.  Since the Champ/IRL split, which used to be my favorite series, I've kinda lost interest in it altogether.  F1 is usually a parade, NASCAR is taking on a WWF feel for me, IRL/Champ races typically run fields of 18 cars or so, and SCCA stuff is typically difficult for me to catch.  If anything has my interest at all it's the rally stuff, but that too is so inconsistently covered on Sped vision that it's hard for me with my schedule to follow.

Ultra

I do relate to your feelings about motorsports of late, Rich.

Still, I think the 24 hours of Daytona looks like a real good race.

Australian SuperCup V-8's on Speed starting Jan 2.

And BTCC races on Speed every Monday at noon starting Jan 9.  For some reason, foreign race series seem MUCH more entertaining than our home grown variety.    :(
