That must've been the world's fastest VW van...

Dan

The level road top speed on a water-cooled Vanagon is about 85. 90 is redline in 4th (top) gear.

Everyone thinks of the air-cooled TypeII when I talk about my Van -- those were good for a 68 mph top speed blast with the 1600.

Spring Training games start on Thursday! Prior is actually scheduled to pitch in the Cubs 5th game! :o

MG

Hmmm....woulda thought he'd start prior to that.    :P

It's still the worlds' fastest VW van...

In my experience, the Weather Channel doesn't have a clue when it comes to this part of the country. It's really quite arrogant to think we can predict weather in the mountains. At Glacier, when I would dispense hiker/tourist info, I'd simply tell them to look at the weather printout and plan for the exact opposite.

It seems that if you aren't in LA, NYC or Atlanta, they don't bother to cover you anyway...I have no idea if they are any more accurate in those locations than they are the rest of the globe...

When I was young, whenever anyone would try to predict what the upcoming winter would be like, my grandfather would say,"...Long about April, we'll know."

He was usually right.

Dan

usually??????

Just wanted to let everyone in on my weekend....

Well this weekend started back around Valentines Day when I received a call from my Dad...(first off...let me say...When I saw who it was calling me at work on my cellphone, I knew the reason for the call. I think he can called me a total of about 3 times in the last 30 years)...telling me that my grandmother was unresponsive and "coded" at the nursing home and taken to the hospital (presumably to officially be "pronounced").

A couple of days later he called again to inform me of the arrangements for this past weekend (My oldest uncle lives in NZ).

My grandfather died in 1985 (remember that because it is pertinent later on).

On to the point of this story...

After the services we all went over to her house to "divvy out the contents". My aunt came walking out of the bedroom with a box of Sheik...(refer back to when my grandfather died)...that had to be over 22 years old!

Please for the sake of your children's and grandchildren's mental stability...clean out stuff that would create a nauseating visual!

About the most embarrassing thing I've got around the house is a picture of me in the '70's. :yuck:

There's a video circulating around of a VW bus with a 993 turbo drivetrain circling the 'Ring... I'm pretty sure that might vie for top honors.

There are also more than a few T3's with Chevy 350s lurking in the rear.

MG

I read an article about that hypervan once. Iirc, it was created as a support vehicle for the Dakar rally.  It was the only way that spares and cameras and people could be moved fast enough to keep up with the racers.. Bet you'd like a crack at THAT one for a coupla days, huh?    ;D

Sorry to hear about your loss...

I can top that story, though...I used to work at a mental health facility, and the patients weren't allowed to keep their medications in their rooms, of course.  On my first day, a young lady asked me to retreive her asprin.  I reached into her drawer in the nurses' station, and hunted through a rather large number of bottles.  I picked up what I thought were asprin tablets, and brought them out to her.  She looked rather surprised...I had mistakenly picked up her birth control pills.  I was a lot more careful after that.
