Got the car back with a re-flashed ECU. Didn't cost me a dime. So far, problem solved.

Unless this crops up again, Hatfield Hyundai-Subaru gets an 'A' for this one. Less than 48 hours elapsed between my call for an appointment, dropping the car off, and picking the car up.

Thinking of parking it, driving one of the company Subies for the next few months until can get the bike back out, and spend the repair dollars on a couple of snowmobile trips in the meantime....

Love the car, hate the "premium."

Boxer likes his Subie.  It is nice and a great winter car.

That sucks about the Audi. Some may recall that I was all set to buy the '01 Passat off my parents last winter. Seeing the cost of parts and realizing how many of them were going to need replaced in the next few years scared me away.

The Subie seems to be driving great. Whatever they did, it feels quicker off the line and that annoying tendency for the revs to hang up while the engine is cold has been cured. Can't wait to toss it around in some snow... I should get the chance in a couple of weeks when I drive out to CO to visit friends.

If you head for Denver, you could probably rent it out as a taxi...

Just curious, Vdub, in our five-speed Impreza, the motor will briefly increase in rpm when the clutch is depressed even if I lift the throttle completely prior to hitting the clutch.  Is this what yours was/is doing?  Ours does it whether the engine's hot or cold.

BTW, eight inches of powder in 24 hours and I was cruising around in the stick Subie and having no problems whatsoever....the Audi awaits my decision at the shop........

Could I interest you in a 1996 Dodge Ram Pace Truck with a quirky automatic transmission?  We call it "The Adventurer"...

That's exactly what it was doing. It was barely noticeable when warm, but it severely affected driveability when cold. There's barely a hint of it now... After reading on some Subie forums, I had pretty much accepted "they all do that".

I do know that when engaging the clutch without hitting the gas, the computer will gently throttle up to make the launch smoother. FWIW, I'd rather not have my car try to out-think me.

Seems like every car I've ever had "out-thought" me from time to time, even w/o computers.  My MG used to be quite clever in that regard.....
