Banff is an hour from my house. I wonder why I don't go more often. Get used to it I guess.

Heard the sad news today that Benny Parsons has died, and earlier this month we lost Bobby Hamilton as well...I know this isn't the biggest NASCAR crowd, but I thought it would be appropriate to acknowledge their careers.

Benny was champion in 1973, and one of the first of the former drivers to find a second career in broadcasting.  At the time when he should have been anticipating a well-deserved retirement, he was diagnosed with lung cancer, and after receiving news that it was in full remission, complications from losing a lung led to his passing.

Hamilton was at the pinnacle of his career, having won the Craftsman Truck Championship recently, and was one of the top drivers in the series, and was diagnosed early last season with a cancerous growth in his neck.  He fought a courageous fight against the illness, as well.

Both men were consummate sportsmen and champions who reflected the ideals of the sport.  They will be missed...

Yeah, for whatever reason, I felt kinda bad when I heard that Parsons died.  Dunno why, but think it must have been particualrly painful for those involved in that he was pronounced "cancer-free" just months before it killed him....false hope is worse than no hope....

Went and registered for school today.

Here we go...

Have fun! I wouldn't go back to school for anything. Nothing against learning but I don't like school. One degree is enough.

I knew a guy in grad school who was married, w/ three kids under six, holding down a full-time job and taking a full load of credits.  He drank a lot.

Dunno...will have to check it out.  I know I needed one a couple years back when I attended a conference in Montreal.  The funny thing I remember about that was that I waited forever to get cleared to enter Canada (following a clear search of every inch of my carry-on luggage and an electronic frisk) but it took me around ten minutes and quick wave-through to come back into the States.  Homeland Security anyone? :-\

Entering Canada, you are an alien.

Entering the U.S., you are a citizen.
