I always associate the early darkness with winter.

How about a ode to AutoPuzzles. Anyone else care to add a verse or two?

'Twas early on the morning, I got an e-mail warning, another puzzle had appeared.
I opened up a browser, used my wireless mouse, sir, to see the newest puzzles here.
Oh, heavens! It's another Seven. What will my fellow Puzzlers think?
The dependency on kit cars, by polyglots from afar, will surely drive us all to drink!

One more miss-cloned Countach is bound to start a backlash the likes of which we've never seen.
Is that puzzler a subscriber, to "Icelandic Car & Driver" my least favorite auto magazine?
Their unique and fuzzy articles, and tiny pics like particles, will fill the "Black Hole" to the rim.
Until my dearest buddy, a hardy soul quite ruddy, pulls the other copy out of the bin.

What shall we make of big lots, low-volume coachbuilt Fiats, two living souls have ever spied?
And over-chromed white walled cars, part of the past tail-fins farce, from when Ike was someone we all liked?
Home built abominations, esthetically-challenged creations, so long gone and far way.
Those hungry hungry termites, tin-worms and meteorites, thankfully sent them to their graves.

This place, unique and quirky, I think we can all agree, we'd not have it any other way.
My online home is this place, the challenges I dig,  grace my favorite place to start my day.

It may sound odd, but I was listening to a recording of Lord Chancellor's Nightmare Song (from Iolanthe). While relating to the general insomniac underpinnings of the song (hence my showing up at all hours to work on this site), I liked the structure of the phrasing, and though I'd pen something similar.

But the darkness has passed, and it's daylight at last, and the night has been long – ditto, ditto my song – and thank goodness they're both of them over!

I don't profess to be as talented as Gilbert or Sullivan (Or Gilbert O'Sullivan, for that matter).  ;D

Snow is not bad at all, but not when it lays for half a year...

here is one
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, the creator of the world-famous detective Sherlock Holmes, was not above telling self-deprecating tales.

In one situation, he was waiting at a taxi stand outside the railway station in Paris. When a taxi pulled up, he placed his suitcase in the car and took a seat next to it.

"Where can I take you, Mr. Doyle?" asked the taxi driver.

Doyle was flabbergasted. He asked the driver whether he knew him by sight.

"No, sir, I have never seen you before."

The puzzled Doyle asked him how he knew who he was.

"This morning's paper had a story about you being on vacation in Marseilles. This is the taxi-stand where people who return from Marseilles always come to. Your skin color tells me you have been on vacation. The ink-spot on your right index finger suggests to me that you're a writer. Your clothing is very English, and not French. And so, I deduced that you are Sir Arthur Conan Doyle."

Doyle remarked, "This is truly amazing. You are a real-life counterpart to my fictional creation, Sherlock Holmes."

"There is one other thing," the driver said.

"What is that?"

"Your name is on the front of your suitcase."
