Title: THE CONSTITUTION
Post by: Otto Puzzell on September 07, 2008, 11:11:38 AM
They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it  worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore.

Is it a serious proposal?

I'm not sure it would be a good idea to include the second amendment.

I know it would be good to include it.

I can think of a thousand reasons to prove my point, but I won't debate this with an American. It's your constitution after all.

I can list just as many to prove mine.

The second amendment is there to allow the citizens the ability to fight off tyrannical government.  The Swiss model is the correct example.

You see, if we start to debate this, Ultra, it would take at least two thousand posts. And I know what your founding fathers intended, and the swiss idea of democracy (I am quarter swiss myself by the way) but this was not my point. I was merely saying that, even without the second amendment, the iraquis make a swell job of slaughtering themselves, and that in your own country there may be a slight relation between that amendment and Columbine or such similar events. But I guess you're tired of hearing this and, as I said, it's your country and your problem. I am not trying to convince Americans of anything, just saying my piece, for what it's worth.
Oh, and I found Otto's proposition very funny, interesting and meaningful.

Or they could give them ours. It has never been written down, even by smart guys, and was working well enough over 200 years ago when we lost our North American colony. If we did that, perhaps we could stop our government adding bits to it on an almost weekly basis in the mistaken belief that all change is beneficial.

Democracy is mob rule.  I'll pass.

Let's hear it for the Republic!
