Wondering if there's anyway I could find out if someone is accessing my email account? Here's the situation: a couple of old employees have left the practice and were none too happy re- the situation. Perhaps foolishly, I didn't change the email password to our account which had several addresses attached to it, inclusive of the addresses of the old employees. Lately, there's been some suspicious "coincidences" re- "confidential" information not being so.

I contacted our local service and they said there was no way that anyone could track that information and advised us to change our password, which we did. Is there anyway some of this information could be tracked?

Beyond the above, if this has been happening, is it illegal?

I do believe it is illegal for an ex-employee to access your email without your authorization.

If you internet provider cannot tell you if the account has been accessed by an outside source, no one can.

Frankly, in this security era, I know the provider has records.  I don't know, however, if they are obligated to share them with you.

Just got off the phone w/ our service provider who reiterated that there was absolutely no record kept of that information.  Worsens matters considerably that the individual(s) likely used an existing address name and password - no system red flags are raised in such a circumstance.  Asked (not so nicely) if I had an attorney subpoena any records if that would change anything and the answer was a resounding "no."
