Can anyone here name the famous musician and backup band you are hearing here?
Anyone?
???
Hendrix with ELP? ???

Hendrix with ELP? ???
Not the first Hendrix comparison, but no.
Please try again.
I'm gonna say Satriani w/ Double Trouble.....although the drummer doesn't exactly sound like Chris Layton, the keyboardist sure has a Reese Winans sound and the bass is as close to Tommy Shannon.....

Incorrect.
Clue: This artist is a Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member.
:bump:
Answer me these questions three:
Are we guessing the guitarist or the percussionist?
Was the musician inducted alone, or as part of a rock group?
Is the backup group on this recording a collective inductee to the hall, exclusive of the guitarist we hear in this recording?
I'm going to take a wild-@ss guess and say it's Billy Gibbons from ZZ Top performing with Traffic, perhaps at their 2004 induction.
Carlos Santana?

Carlos Santana?
Beat me to it, KU; that was my next completely blind/wild guess, based solely on a review of the R'n'R HOF roster.......
;D
Not Santana. Though one of his bandmates from the seventies has an offspring that plays regularly with this artist.
Oh...THAT'S a lotta help..........
Dickey Betts?

More guesses = more clues. Rather than complain, focus more on the clues you have overlooked.

Dickey Betts?
No.
I have never seen or heard the guitarist in question use a slide.
Zal Yanovsky
You know me; I MUCH prefer complaining to any real thinking......

You know, I did a little google time. That bandmate clue is a HUGE hint.
:P
Joe Perry

Joe Perry
No. The musician you seek was inducted solo, not as a member of a band.
Quote from: RichSometimes, but most of the time....notsomuch..... :yuck:
I dunno. I don't recognize a lot of the names on the inductee list.
Rich, it's all yours.

I am completely confident you know this artists name and have heard his music.
Eddie Van Halen

Eddie Van Halen
No. This fellow is known for more than his guitar prowess.
Who - Eddie or the Mystery Man?
I'm down to three: Neil Young, B.B. King, and Clapton. My guesses, in order, would be Young, Clapton, King.....

All three incorrect.
The artist rocks, doesn't he?
Chuck Berry?

Chuck Berry?
:lmao:
:disbelief:
The Artist formerly known as Hendrix, Santana, Satriani, Van Halen, Clapton, Chuck Berry, BB King, Joe Perry and Billy Gibbons rocks, doesn't he?
:nana:
You're kidding me.....PRINCE?
Prince can really rock the house when he wants too. This year may be the rare occasion where I actually watch the half time show at the Super Bowl.

Prince Rocks!
Here he gives his take on The Rolling Stones' Honky Tonk Woman (http://www.autopuzzles.com/mp3s/HonkyTonkWoman.mp3). That was taken from "The Undertaker" bootleg release.
:thumbsup:
No I am not kidding you, Rich. The original sample is from the famous "Small Club" aftershow bootleg from early 1988. Prince and the Revolution with Sheila E, daughter of Pete Escovedo, joining them on percussion. You are hearing Instrumental Jam from Disc 1 in the original sample. I have the entire bootleg if you are interested.

Rave Unto the Joy Fantastic
It is no secret that this is arguably the most essential bootleg
recording in circulation for Prince fans. It is first and
foremost on my personal list of favorites. Even though there are
now a plethora of soundboard recordings available from nearly
every tour, this is a perfect recording of a coveted aftershow.
The show itself is a true aftershow classic, with everything we
could ask for in a performance: killer guitar solos (Rave Unto
the Joy Fantastic & Just My Imagination), great vocals (Still
Would Stand All Time), lots of Boni Boyer, and a couple of
unreleased songs (People Without, etc..). This is Prince at his
physical and performing prime. Looking back I would have to say
that 1987-88 featured him at his best more consistently that any
other time of his career.
;D
The Undertaker
Prince originally intended to give this live CD away free with 1,000 copies of Guitar Player Magazine in 1994, but he was told by Warner Brothers that he couldn't. Some rare copies were leaked and heavily bootlegged.
The album's track list is as follows:
* "The Ride"
* "Poor Goo"
* "Honkey Tonk"
* "Bambi"
* "Zannalee (Prelude)/The Undertaker"
* "Dolphin"
BONUS! I included a rare, unreleased studio track entitled "Endorphin Machine" from that same era. All of the first 6 tracks segue together so they should be listened to in this order.

I have definitely overlooked something here. WOW Its me that needs a hip(hyp Hep?) replacement. It was all the formerly known as and the like that put me off. Goes to show ya some impressions need to be redone from time to time. Thank for enlightenment. And thanks for posting this >

Otto, in regards to your PM, did you download the mp3's from this thread?
Rich,
Did you listen to the mp3s of the Undertaker bootleg?
Nope...hoping to this weekend...slammed for time, as usual....
BTW, IMO, he was the best part of the Super Bowl...and I'm not a fan....just thought his professionalism was obvious and the fact that there were no, uhh, "taped enhancements" to the performance was a testament to his talent. I'm tired of seeing professional karaoke at these types of events.....

'xactly!
:applause:
The consensus I've seen in the various Super Bowl write-ups is that it was the best halftime show in the history of the game.
Given the utter craptitude of most halftime shows, I'm in no position to disagree.
The Small Club files have begun to upload and should be available later this evening. I will post the links when the upload is complete.

More "who is this" music puzzles would be great, too. :)

Toyota Prince,....or a Speed 25 Elvis.
