Don't try this at home!
« on: February 19, 2019, 08:31:52 AM »
Back in 2013, we were preparing to move from England to France.  While waiting for a friend to arrive with the truck, I thought I would help a little by bringing a wardrobe downstairs.  A straightforward operation;...the doors and shelving were removed to lighten the load.  What could go wrong?

The wardrobe shell was positioned carefully on the landing so that it could be laid on its side, and then gradually pointed downwards to meet the rather narrow stairs.  I would then be able to support the thing while descending one slow step at a time.  Except!!... the instant that the wardrobe was positioned for take-off,...it DID!!  In earlier years I had been capable of running UP the stairs.  Now was an opportunity to run DOWN the stairs.  To my amazement, I managed to remain upright as my legs windmilled, with the bloody wardrobe in hot pursuit.  On reaching the bottom of the staircase, I spun to the left, Matador fashion, and gained the safety of the hall.  The top of the wardrobe thudded into the side of the gas supply cabinet.  Fortunately the latter was of very sturdy construction.

Upon hearing the thud, my dear wife came to the upstairs landing rail, leant over, and said, "You've not damaged it, have you???".

"NO!!!......and I'm alright as well, thanks!"  Bitch.
