Title: Things we always see in the movies
Post by: Ray B. on February 19, 2009, 12:02:50 PM
Something I found, by a fellow named Neil Gunton. Here is the paragraph about car chases.

The hero will always find a convenient car/motorbike/speedboat/bicycle to use to chase the fleeing villain. The key will always be in the ignition.

Drivers in movies can look away from the road (e.g. talking to a passenger) for extended periods of time without crashing.

The hero who is escaping in a car can always shoot down a pursuing helicopter with a handgun (by piercing the fuel tank) or else make the helicopter fly into overhead wires or a mountainside.

Cars will always be able to spontaneously flip over upon hitting a trash can.

A fruitstand will be sent flying at least once during any given car chase.

The hero can always execute a flawless handbrake turn, even if they are supposedly an accountant or other mild-mannered professional.

When the hero is fleeing in a car chase, they will always manage to drive at speed through a busy intersection, narrowly missing all the crossing cars and trucks, whereas the pursuers will be blocked by a truck.

The villain's car always immediately explode into flames when they go off a cliff, or are shot once in the fuel tank.

The hero's car never explodes when driven off a bridge to the road below. Also, the car will continue to be drivable.

I saw Jeremy Clarkson do almost everything on that list in episode 6, season 12, on Top Gear on my computer today. Including the fruit stand and the handbrake manoeuvre.

Squealing tires on dirt roads is always impressive...

And when on tarmac, all the skidmarks of previous takes.

When the bad guy is trying to stab the Hero during a fight He will always aim to his eyes\throat and the Hero will be always able to stop the knife for a considerably high amount of time just few inches away from his vital parts

From a movie saw yesterday.

I should add that he did it in a Ford Fiesta inside a shopping mall, with a Corvette following him...

Well, after all, it was his first proper and thorough road test, right? ;)
