This may be too off-topic, but it is interesting where many car engines did there jobs in other vehicles than cars or trucks etc.

So I´ve searched through my archive and looked for original ads to scan.

Any additional photos of other examples like the legendary Coventry Climax fire pump engine etc. are very welcome.

So, here´s part one.

VW and Porsche aircooled boxer engines:

Part two: other car manufacturer´s engines used in boats:

I will do some digging and try to do the obvious and some surprises...

It's pushing it a bit, as this is a DAF engine, probably more likely to have featured in their trucks.

This another one like that, being a Kromhout. I believe they never ventured into cars.

Brons most probably did try one passenger car, which we now would call a bus, around 1900 and trucks in the 1930's. Neither went beyond prototypes, but they did make some tractors.

Cool topic!  I've always found myself looking at boats just to see what engine's underneath the engine cover...

Thank you. I hope there will be some nice contributions to this topic in future...

Since we've already moved to aircraft engines from car makers, here's a tank engine from a maker of car engines...

As you can see from this advert, Dutch car manufacturer Omnia made rollers as well.

Although this topic is about car engines used in other forms of transportation, I thought I'd draw your attention to the power of the modern diesel and it's current use in the superyacht field.

The first photo shows a modern MTU marine diesel - model 16V595TE90 that develops 4320kW (5880ps) at 1800rpm

Four of these are installed in the 72.8m (239 ft) Russian owned superyacht PREDATOR as illustrated in the second photo. This outstanding vessel was built by Feadship in the Netherlands in 2008. Maximum speed 28 knots, fuel capacity 183,000 litres, accommodating only 6 guests with 19 crew.

This one doesn't fit as it has no specific car engine, but found it worth to post in this section of the board.

The M24 Chafee "Lightweight" tank used two Cadillac Series 44T24 V8 engines.
