Up, up weeee goooo... ;D

barrett

Malcolm Sayer with a styling model for a mid-engined Jaguar Le Mans car?

Ecnelis

Very close! But this is not Le Mans car, this is something more specific. Locked for you.

barrett

Could it be an idea for a V12 E-Type replacement, that eventually became the front engined XJS?
I know I've got this photo somewhere but I'm not sure where to start looking...

Ecnelis

No.

Le Mans racer was excellent start.

barrett

Developement of the XJ13...?

Ecnelis

barrett

I suppose it has a proper model designation but I don't think i'm going to find it!

My last thought is that it's probably one of the 1967 designs for a '3-litre competition car' by Sayer, but that's all I've got so if anyone else wants to jump in, please go ahead!

Ecnelis

No, it is XJ13, but there is something distinctive about it. It should stay locked for you, as you're almost there. ;)

barrett

I checked where I thought I had the photo but it wasn't there... I can't think where to even begin looking through the piles of magazines now...

Is the fact that is appears to have no bonnet something to do with it? Perhaps some sort of primitive ground force, following on from the accident that destroyed the XJ13?

Ecnelis

I'm afraid no bonnett has nothing to do with it. Final hint - if it is XJ13 and if it's not Le Mans car then what it could be?

barrett

A road car?

I think the initial plan was to build a mid-engined road car using the V-12, the XJ13 would've been the 'test bed' to prove the engine's worth...

That's really my last guess, so if it's not that then please open this up for everyone else!

Yes! It is one of the mid-engined road car proposals based on XJ13. :applause:

Plan never came to fruition as the XJ-S was introduced instead.
