I stumbled over this by accident yesterday.  I thought I'd seen the photo in the Rookie section, but couldn't find it.

Anyway, it's a 1947 Urania 750cc Sport BMW Boxer

You're very close Ray but the pictures you have posted are not of the same car.
It is closely related but have another look and see if you can accurately say what the puzzle car is.

You're right...and I shouldn't try to compare photos when I'm exhausted...which is most of the time now.

The site I stumbled over is sorta difficult to associate the captions with the photos.

So. "It's the other one."  A 1947 Urania 500cc Supercharged F2 BMW Boxer.

I'm curious about that name.  I'd never heard of Urania until it was posted here a coupla days ago.  I can't decide whether it's related to fissionable material, a planet in our solar system or a proctological disorder.   ::)

Sorry, I suppose this Urania is not from 1947 but from 1948.  In that year, infacti, Bernardo Taraschi realized this little bomb (80 Hp) resizing the 750 Bmw engine he used the previous year and supercharging it with a Roots compressor.
I don't know if this car still exist, but probably its chassis has been used to realize another barchetta, with bmw 750, and without compressor, in 1949.

P.S.  I know it's looked, but I assume Ray has got the point yet, so I put my news on, just to be more exact.

I've given Ray the point because I have this as a 1947 500cc supercharged BMW motorcycle-engined Urania F2.
The only information I've found is that Berardo Taraschi made these cars from 1947 to 1949 using various BMW bike engines, and this particular car is a very early one with the 500cc engine; it may be he used the same chassis later with a bigger engine, I don't know.  After 1949 Taraschi fitted Giannini engines and they became Giaur cars.

If, as targhediferro says, this is wrong then I'm open to changing the heading, but I'll need proof!
